Located in the Serra do Mar mountain range, the park is crossed by the Rodovia Caminho do Mar (SP-148) highway, also known as the Old Santos Road, which cuts through the Atlantic Forest along a historic nine-kilometer route between São Bernardo do Campo and Cubatão. Opened in 1922, the paved road winds through the mountains in switchbacks and stretches of it are often covered in mist. It also features natural lookout points and wide views over the city of Cubatão. Lush vegetation and mountainous terrain lend the route a distinctly cinematic atmosphere. Historical structures along the road underscore the region’s historical significance, including the Calçada do Lorena, the first stone-paved road linking the Planalto de Piratininga to the São Paulo coast, built in 1792; the Pouso de Paranapiacaba, a 1922 monument located around eight hundred meters above sea level overlooking the Henry Borden Power Plant; and the Rancho da Maioridade, a former stopover for travelers travelling between São Paulo and Santos. Together, they form a landscape shaped by both history and nature, offering strong and varied visuals for audiovisual productions.
