Inaugurated in 1977 in the Balneário Itaguaí neighborhood, the pier is the city’s main landmark and is considered the largest reinforced-concrete structure over the sea in Latin America and one of the largest in the world. It runs about four hundred meters into the ocean before splitting into two eighty-six-meter arms, forming a T shape over the water.
