Dating back to the 19th century, this hotel holds the distinction of being the oldest still operating in Brazil. It once hosted the entire court of Emperor Dom Pedro I. Notably, its main hall was the setting for the last royal ball celebrating the abolition of slavery and even contained the city’s first bathroom with a shower. Later, during the 1932 Constitutionalist Revolution, the hotel served as a strategic lookout for scouts observing the movements of troops and Indigenous peoples.
