Established in 1901 as a mutual aid society for Portuguese immigrants, the building features a light-toned façade, prominent columns, and grand staircases. It has served as the School of Pharmacy and Dentistry, the City Council, and, until 2011, the Portuguese Consulate. Despite interior renovations, the external structure retains its original neoclassical design.
