Built in 1891, this parish church is regarded as Piracaia’s founding site. It retains its original front section and rammed-earth walls, which are over 1.5 meters thick. Its tall central tower and symmetrical yellow façade lend it a somewhat imposing presence. Inside, the nave ceiling stands out for the striking frescoes, mostly by artist Antônio Navickas, depicting the faces of all the Popes, from Saint Peter to Pope Francis. There are only two collections like this in the world: this one and another in the Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls, in Rome.
