Inaugurated in 2008, the square was named in honor of engineer Riugi Kojima, the city’s deputy mayor, who passed away that same year. Its centerpiece is a traditional, red Japanese torii gate that stands seventeen meters high and twenty-one meters wide. Spanning nine thousand square meters, it also features a Japanese-Brazilian garden that blends Oriental and Western plant species, symbolizing the harmonious relationship between the two countries.
